Simply because polyester just isn’t a organic cloth, (it’s essentially a sort of plastic) it can melt with extreme temperatures.

Very bad idea. As the above fellow said, it melts under high temperature and what is worse, is that it melts and sticks to your skin.
There are all sorts of horror stories about it in the business. Most places now require fire proof materials such as NOMEX III or at the very least 100% cotton clothing.
No it isn’t OK. Polyester sets on fire and if you don’t believe me I learned this in chemistry that you should wear %100 wool because wool doesn’t spread fire. %100 wool is what they use in fire blankets.
I doubt if it’s 100% polyester I’ll bet !?! But you can be sure that it’s mixed with other things that catch fire !! & I’ll bet some of the stuff it’s made with just MIGHT melt on the skin !?!
I would ask for a substitution and wear cotton instead. Usually people choose polyester (even though it’s hot) because it dries faster than cotton. Whoever chose the uniforms needs perhaps to have different ones for summer than for winter. Make the suggestion.
When you mention “safely” I don’t know what you’re referring to…are you saying you work with electronics or electricity and are afraid of dripping perspiration on your work and shorting something out and getting shocked?
