Need to a boiler’s enlargement tank be mounted upside down?
Query by pingber: Ought to a boiler’s enlargement tank be mounted upside down?
That is, on my boiler, the pipe fitting is on the bottom of the expansion tank and the air valve (seems to be like a tire air valve is on the top. Some internet sites say that this ncorrect. Which way really should it be?

Technically it is upside down
.
Expansion tanks are genuinely straightforward units. They incorporate compressed air and a unique rubber bladder. When your sizzling drinking water heater turns on, the drinking water inside your piping system starts to broaden. This expanding h2o enters the expansion tank. Eventually, very hot h2o is drawn from the technique through a faucet and the expansion tank releases the additional drinking water into the piping program.
This also prevents the expanded h2o to re-enter the public method if your home is not outfitted with a back circulation preventer.

It’s not upside down. The pipe fitting is what it is….the air fitting simply is to fill a bladder. I have seen these things mounted in all configurations. The expansion tank keeps pressure in the loop and eliminates water hammer. You would destroy your pump without it. I am sure it’s fine right where it is.

Technically there is no upside down, they will work in any position. After all it is only water pushing against a rubber bladder filled with air.
